Tetters is any of various eruptive skin diseases, such as herpes, eczema, and impetigo. It is not a technical description.
I guess this Saturnine plaister would cost around £800 to make .
Msr. Thomas Goulard had quite powerful incentives in his promotion of lead salts as a medicine He was charging customers what, in today’s prices would be about £80, for a gallipot of this poisonous muck. The medical profession such as it stood at the time, were able to ask leading questions about this form of treatment and some were noticing that there were poisoning effects behind the use of lead ointments. One can assume the gullible public were unaware of such bickering behind the scenes and continued to kill themselves with it. He was a quack doctor.
